Jack’s is an icon in and around Cromane, a sure-fire success story for beautifully cooked seafood served in a lovely room with a superlative location.
There’s a polished perfectionism that makes you feel good. The restaurant gleams, the silver shines, the views bedazzle, the light bounces off the ocean (okay, it’s a fine day), the staff are charming and, even before you have been shown to your table, they have you in the palm of their hands. Wow! Now that’s how to run a restaurant. That’s how to make that first impression – what we call the Blink Moment – into a decisive success. The customer is charmed, the staff are courteous, JP is tinkling the ivories, so bring on Jonathan Keary’s sublime fish cooking, and we will cancel the rest of the day.
Whilst fish and shellfish are a mainstay of the Keary family’s restaurant, they haven’t opted for the seafood only course, so you can order duck confit, and sirloin steak, and rack of Kerry lamb. But that would be more than a little crazy when the seafood cookery is this good, and when the sea is just a stone’s throw from your seat. So, Cromane oysters for you, and scallops with Cashel Blue Mornay for me, then sole on the bone and hake with pesto. And crisp white wine, and all is well with the world.
